OVERALL: Draw
The US Supreme Cinema Series and Remastered in 4K releases have a new 4K remastered transfer, a Dolby Atmos track and many extras.
The German Remastered release also has a 4K remastered transfer has the widest selection of extras, including an audio commentary.
There are five different transfers available:- Sony originally released this title in 2006 to universally negative reviews owing to a poor BD25 disc with MPEG-2 transfer.
- In 2007 the title was re-released with MPEG-4 encoding and a BD50 disc.
- Then in 2009 a Scandinavian disc was released with a "Luc-Besson-approved" transfer.
- 2015 Sony 4K remastered transfer.
- 2020 Studio Canal 4K remastered transfer.
The way to tell the difference between the remastered transfer and the director-approved transfer is the Gaumont logo on the disc case and at the start of the film. On the director-approved new transfer, the contrast is boosted (like the Besson-approved Léon transfer), colours have been altered and the palette is pushed to the warmer end of the spectrum.
— Thanks to Rewind user Alec_Deacon for this note. - Sony originally released this title in 2006 to universally negative reviews owing to a poor BD25 disc with MPEG-2 transfer.
