OVERALL: Draw
The R1 Ultimate Edition includes both the matted widescreen and unmatted fullscreen editions of the film with the lengthiest extras and DTS 6.1 audio.
The R2 UK Sony release includes the widescreen version of the film with an exclusive commentary and lengthy extras, but note the film has minor tweaks made by Sam Raimi.
Some editions include minor tweaks in the film itself, performed at Raimi’s request for the full screen version:
– a lightning shot has been removed,
– a shot where Cheryl is first possessed and turns round to the group has been zoomed in.
In 2010, while prepping the new transfer for the US Blu-ray and UK releases, Sam Raimi made more tweaks to the film (while leaving the first 2 tweaks mentioned back to their original form).
Screenshots of the tweaks and comparison between several editions of the movie is avaialble on Book Of The Dead.
The Italian SE also has the original version, though it’s unknown at this time if it’s "tweaked" or not. Read more here.
To see what tweaks were made to the 2010 US and UK releases, please see this link: this link.. -
