Marked for Death (UK Blu) - I like this one. Probably one of Seagal's most action packed, and Keith David really adds to it. I spotted Danny Trejo and Danielle Harris too, who I didn't realise were in it (been a long long time since I last viewed). Blu-ray is solid, if unremarkable. A decent improvement on the DVD though (I cross-referenced quickly :) ). 6/10

The Walking Dead: Season 3 (UK Blu) - Episodes 5-12 - Another cracking season so far. Just another few episodes to go.
I work away a lot but I will reply to all PM's within a few days so please have patience!

It's a huge improvement over any DVD. Which was really bad. And the movie itself is awesome, a true classic. 9/10

The Double (2011)

6/10

I love The Walking Dead, such a great show, just finished the latest season, can't wait for season 5 now!

Watched the final 4 episodes of The Walking Dead: Season 3. Absolutely fantastic Noor, you're right. Easily one of the best shows currently on the go. I'll probably pre-order the limited edition of S4 but undecided right now. 10/10

The Breed (USA Blu) - an enjoyable rabid dogs movie which doesn't really add anything to the genre, but deserves to be seen. 6/10

Yes Man (UK Blu) - A guilty pleasure. I think Jim Carrey and Zooey Deschanel play off each other surprisingly well here. Always good to see Terence Stamp and Luis Guzman also. 8/10

Yes. Plenty of gore, a decent cast, twists that you really don't expect. Can't recommend it enough.

The Warriors 7.5/10 - Can you dig it? Love this film, so cheesy and over the top especially the different gangs after them. Seen this movie a few times and it just gets better and better... Warriors... come out and plaaaaaaay.

Not so much gore, actually... it's more a human drama in an realistic apocalyptic setting, tastefully done (no excessive gore IMO). For me it's a "here's the situation, what would YOU do?" type of thing. However the interesting aspect of this, is the cross-media support it has; I don't know which came first - the comic book series or tv series - but there are also various computer games and perhaps even normal books... and to my knowledge, they're somewhat different to each other. If Samuel has sampled those other, perhaps he can advise how (in)correct I am re this aspect. Think it's joined the pantheon of SW, ST, Hitchiker's/Galaxy, and a very others that have such a prevalent and diverse cross-media range.

Is that the Ken Wahl (or late70's) one? Still have not seen it, and (if it's the one I'm thinking of) should I watch the DC?

TV series is based on the comic book series of the same name.

Yep, very much a drama but not much gore? You must've watched a different show to me... It's frequently extremely gruesome, and for a TV show, its definitely one of the most gruesome I have seen by far.

Yeah, it does cross formats. Comics like Sculder said is where it originated, but there are also video games (the episodic game on the 360 was good).

I heard there is an awesome site where you can search for specs of this show...

Ideally you want the US releases for all 3. I picked up the UK boxset of seasons 1-3 for £30 spur of the moment without researching. Still more than happy with the purchase, but wish I had waited for the US releases to get under the customs limits.

Been watching the TV broadcasts - don't know if the disk versions are "uncut". Compared to other zombie viewings - eg DEAD SET http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1285482 , some George Romero films, some European (French & Scandinavian films), 28 days later, etc etc etc - Walking Dead is relatively tame by comparison. Actually cannot remember any particular scene where you see a zombie take a bite out of someone, tear flesh off, etc. Yes you see guts etc of zombies hanging out, people with bloodied faces etc, but that's not gore (to me). Not saying they are not there at all; simply that 95+% of the time, it's people talking/emoting/running/targeting/playing-cat-and-mouse/boo-hoo-ing etc... but no body-tearing and other torture-porn related things. At least, that's been my experience up to ep204. Anyway, DEAD SET beats it in the gore elements (for a TV show).

How do you compare the game(s) to the TV series, in terms of story? And the comics, if you've read them (what are they up to - issue 200+ or something)?

Then hopefully you can tell me how to do that on a PS3 (and yes, I've looked unsuccessfully on the internet).

Sculder, what are your thoughts on the stuff you're watching (that you post here)?

Your TV broadcasts must be heavily cut. Not an episode goes by where heads are not explicitly crushed/stabbed etc. People also do get ripped apart. I don't compare TV gore to film gore, but there is certainly more in The Walking Dead than in 28 Days Later and, it's at least comparable if not gorier, than the ...of the Dead films IMO. Sure, a lot of the focus is on the emotional torment, but the Blu-rays are also very gory - and season 3 stepped it up massively. Decapitations, limbs cut off, sharp instruments through heads, teeth smashed off against rocks with their heads being stamped on, guts, machetes, etc etc etc.

The game was good, doesn't follow the show, but is very similar in layout. Very easy game though with lots of long cut scenes.

PS3 isn't a blu-ray player per se. And it can be unlocked to play all DVD/Blu, but it requires a certain chip to be replaced. And of course, it ain't free.
But it's better to get yourself the cheapest Oppo player or DuneHD Max. Any of those players could be bought for ~500$ easily.

PS3 is one of the best bluray players, mainly because its features keep getting updated and is kept up to date (where else can you get a 3D bluray players years before they even begun coming out). Yes it's mainly a console, but it's also an ok (but not great) media device, and I still consider it one of the better bluray players: Compared to my other bluray player, only the PS3 allows me to get all the blu specs that Rewind asks for (except for the zone and easter eggs). As for Oppo... cheapest here costs ~U$900 with the conversion kit. DuneHD Max had not heard of before now, and found one listing for it costing not much less than one the cheapest Oppo. Oh well... wonder if the ps4 or xOne (which cost less) are region-free blu players?
