Amour (French Blu)
As always a very surprising movie by director Michael Haneke, with two actors at the top of their art. Haneke's movies are never easy ones, forcing you to make up your mind about "unpleasing" subjects, but this is, as almost in everything he did, quite brilliant. Maybe not my overall favorite (White Ribbon?), but a true masterpiece and a well deserved Palme d'or - 9/10

A BRIDGE TOO FAR: SPECIAL FEATURES (Second viewing, US DVD) - 8/10

For a change, I re-watched the special features on the second disc of one of my favourite WWII films - A BRIDGE TOO FAR :)

"Heroes from the Sky" documentary
"A Distant Battle: Memories of Operation Market Garden" featurette
Interview with director Richard Attenborough

Too bad there isn't any real documentary on the subject - Operation Market Garden - which would make the special features complete.
*N=New to collection :-D, U=Upgrade :), DD=Double Dipping , R=Replacement for damaged disc :-?

Identity (French Blu)
I had never watched this thriller before, but had heard about it. Good story with many twists, good actors and directing, I really had a good time - 7/10

24: Live Another Day: Season 1 (TV)
Saved from total disaster by the last episodes, a notch better than everyhthing we had seen so far (and I love Yvonne Strahovski) - 4/10

Strike Back: Season 4 (TV)
Still good, a very efficient british series, full of action, twists and women: what would you want more? 7/10

Monday:

We Cause Scenes - Documentary about the rise of Improv Everywhere. More of a basic timeline than anything, but enjoyable enough. 6/10

Tuesday:

Riley Rewind - A girl has the power to rewind time. Basic stuff but one of the better made Youtube web-series. 5/10

Cottage Country - Watched it for Tyler Labine and Malin Akerman. It tried to keep the comedy horror vibe, but if it wasn't for the two leads, it would've been rather dire. 5/10

Wednesday:

In the Blood - Good to see a strong female action star. Gina Carano reminds me of Cynthia Rothrock in some ways, except she is getting a higher quality of support. 6/10

The Square - Cracking documentary about the Egyptian revolution. A must-see. 9/10

L'Assassino (1961) - Another fine release from Arrow. Never seen this before, and thought it was as good as other Petri films I have seen like The 10th Victim, if not, better. 8/10

The Initiation of Sarah (2006) - Weak horror remake starring Summer Glau and Mika Boorem. It's like The Craft-lite, and nowhere near as enjoyable. 3/10

Repo Man (1984) - Alex Cox's best film? Quite possibly. Still holds up over 30 years later. 8/10

Demons Never Die (2011) - At times, it felt like this film wouldn't end. 3/10

Rick and Morty - one of the funniest animated shows I've seen in a long time, twisted, dark and brilliant, check it out at rickandmorty.com
Samir: You know there's nothing wrong with that name.
Michael Bolton: There was nothing wrong with it... until I was about 12 years old and that no-talent ass clown became famous and started winning Grammys. (Office Space)

Los Amantes Pasajeros (French Blu)
Terrible... by far the worst Amodovar movie I've ever seen. Never funny, pathetic, poor story, bad actors... a true disaster - 3/10

Amber: The Complete Series (2014) - A solid enough Irish drama, but I wasn't a fan of the ending. 6/10

Film 400 viewed of 2014:
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back - I'm a Kevin Smith fanboy, and although this is far from his best, I still love it. 8/10

Pacific Rim (French Blu)
Guillermo del Toro has done so much better, but this is an efficient action movie - 7/10

BURNT OFFERINGS (First viewing, YouTube) - 6.5/10

I've known this since it played at the cinemas. Didn't rent it on vhs then. Just decided to watch it. It could have been better as it plays more like a made-for-tv feature. The suspense is present but feels fabricated.

Stanley Kubrick's THE SHINING, which has a similar plot, is superior to this or THE CHANGELING (1980) which is also chilling.

A Separation (US Blu)
Even better than Le Passé, this is a great human drama, with wonderful actors, a great storytelling, a lot of suspense and many surprises - 9/10.

The last couple of days:

Branded to Kill (1967) - 8/10 - http://www.dvdcompare.net/review.php?rid=3306

Trap of Lust (1973) - 6/10 - http://www.dvdcompare.net/review.php?rid=3306 (extra feature)

Sabotage (2014) - Not as good as other recent Arnie films, but still worth a watch and some solid action. 6/10

Non-Stop (2014) - Love Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore, but the film was standard Hollywood thriller fare. 6/10

Khumba (2013) - Good animation, average storyline, solid 3D. 6/10

Blood Diamond (2006) - One of the films that continued to turn DiCaprio into a serious actor. Jennifer Connolly always strong. 8/10

Knight and Day (2010) - I'll just put this awful CGI filled actioner into the guilty pleasure pile. 7/10

R.I.P.D. (2013) - I bought the 3D Blu-ray on release but everyone I know detested it, so my expectations were extremely low going in. Bugger it, the story was pretty awful, but some good ideas, and it was a ton of ridiculously bad fun. The 3D was pretty good too. 6/10

It appears I'm still that guy who likes bad films.
