Detective Dee 2 (Theater)
Great mix of action, investigation and adventures, even better than the first part! 8/10

FOUR RIDERS (First viewing; HK DVD) - 7/10

The story takes place in South Korea in 1953. Four expert Chinese soldiers, who have just retired from their specialized duty after the end of the Korean War, are caught in a deadly clash with the local gangsters of a brothel when one of them is framed for the murder of an American G.I. Complicating their predicament, the Military Police are also hot on their trail. Being backed into a tight corner from two sides with the slightest chance of escaping, the four fugitives are forced to defend their lives with the only "weapon" they have - themselves.

Crime d'Amour (TV)
Good French thriller, even if I don't really like Ludivine Sagnier. Last movie directed by Alain Corneau, really not his best, but a good script - 6/10.

Hidden Fortress (US Blu)
Not my favorite Kurosawa, but a great movie nonetheless, and a wonderfull a/v quality on this Criterion disc - 8/10.

Le Vilain (French Blu)
Funny "dark" comedy: I always enjoy Albert Dupontel movies. Probably not his best, but still a great moment - 7/10.

Tess (US Blu)
One of Polanski's best. Great directing and actors, especially Nastassja Kinski, who never got the career she deserved - 9/10.

Upside Down (TV)
Not really fond of "romance" movies, except when there's something unusual about it (e.g. Punch-Drunk Love, Breaking the Waves…). This one fits: a good mix between several genres and a pretty good scenario. A really good surprise - 7/10.

The Hole (2009) (German Blu)
Nothing wonderful, but not boring, and not as childish as I feared. Nothing new unfortunately, that's not enough to make it really worthwhile - 6/10

Foreign Correspondent (US Blu)
After Lifeboat, a great discovery of one of the "war" movies directed by Hitchcock during the 40s. Far from the "cheap propaganda" that came out at the time, this is an actual Hitchock movie. Even with exterior influences, Alfred never misses - 8/10.

SECRET SERVICE OF THE IMPERIAL COURT (First viewing, HK DVD) - 7.5/10

In 15th century China during the reign of the young and docile Emperor Zhengtong, the captain of a secretive imperial killing squad is hunted down for insubordination by the Emperor's evil eunuch Wang Zhen. After all his loved ones become victims, the captain eventually seeks revenge against his powerful adversary in a duel-to-the-death showdown.

Released in 1984, this violent swordplay drama is quite exciting. Some of the fight scenes resemble those of Japanese samurai manga.

Thief (US Blu)
Another rediscovery : the non-anamorphic DVD had left me with almost no memory! Fantastic soundtrack and photo, this movie also reminded me "Heat". Doing that for a first movie is really impressive - 8/10.

Hitchcock (TV)
Always been an Hitchcock-buff, so this was pretty funny to watch. Too bad it was only focused on Psycho! 7/10

La Confrérie des Larmes (TV)
Another barely/below average French thriller - 5/10.

Jack, The Giant Slayer (French Blu)
Not really bad, but nothing really interesting here: everything for special effects, nothing for the scenario… I should have known what to expect - 5/10.

Passion (US Blu)
Christ, this is in fact the US remake of "Crime d'Amour", a French "thriller" I rewatched only abour two weeks ago ! So, I was pretty "bored" during the first half of the movie, where almost everything really looked like the French film, but in a more "soulless" version. However, when I wasn't expecting anything anymore, things started to take off as the movie took a rather different, Hitchcockian, turn. I won't say more, as not to spoil everything, but this movie, even unbalanced, is really worth a try. This could be the most interesting De Palma since... Mission Impossible ? - 7/10

Orange is the New Black season 2 (Netflix) - not as solid os the first season but still some good episodes, definitely in for season three, 6.5/10
Samir: You know there's nothing wrong with that name.
Michael Bolton: There was nothing wrong with it... until I was about 12 years old and that no-talent ass clown became famous and started winning Grammys. (Office Space)

I preferred Season 2 I think. Really liked the way we moved towards some of the other prisoners. Certainly in for S3 also though!

Blue Jasmine (TV)
Never been fond of Woody Allen, but I am of Cate Blanchett, so I finally decided to watch this. Well, not awesome but better than what I expected/remembered. Another notable performance by the main actress, who finally got the oscar she deserved - 7/10.

Deadly Blessing (UK Blu)
Pretty much enjoyed it even if I wouldn't say it's among the best of Wes Craven. OK scenario, not many special effects, not very frightening, but quite fun to watch - 6/10.
