I checked my disc 2 on the PlayStation 3 just out of curiosity and it is one long video and you essentially just select chapter points from the menu.

I wonder why they did it like that? I'm also wondering why Cine-Asia provided French subtitles? Think it might be the only time they ever did.

Probably because the French company and Cine Asia made a deal to manufacture the discs together to save on costs. But can't confirm if the French disc is identical or not.
