Minority Report (2002) Blu-Ray Uncut?

Postby Ewan_McMahon » 04 Oct 2017 16:38

Hi again, sorry another query concerning cuts and edits and dubs and stuff.

The current Blu-Ray listings of "Minority Report (2002)" http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/f ... ?fid=16034 all say they are uncut.
While all the DVD listings http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=2395 say they have a dubbing alteration.

And just to make things more complicated (sorry), melonfarmers.co.uk suggests all home media releases (Blu-Ray and DVD UK and U.S) have the alternate dubbing (but the original cinema release was uncut), yet the BBFC website says the UK version is completely uncut.

I've been investigating this, and other forum websites seem to suggest the original cinema version (or just before it was shown at the cinemas) was un-dubbed. However now maybe all worldwide home release versions (DVD and Blu-Ray) use this dubbed-version which has essentially become the default normal dialogue for the soundtrack (the dialogue changes were made after the film was made I think).

Anyway, can anyone double check any Blu-Ray versions please. If the dub-alteration is there on Blu-Ray, it might be an idea to put a note on the Blu-Ray listings page (and the DVD page tbh), about this dialogue change having been made after the film was released, and now being normal for all home releases.

From what I've been able to gather, the dialogue change happened during its cinematic run, so it is unlikely that a copy with the original dialogue would exist.

One person has noted that the Canadian Blu-ray release has the word substitution, so I would think all releases has the word substitution.

Despite how clumsily the substitution was done, you'll probably have to make due, unless someone comes along with confirmation that says otherwise for an explicit release.

Given all releases have been the same across the board, it is unlikely that most people will note it.

Yeah exactly what I was thinking. Assuming we are correct and the word substitution is fixed across all worldwide home media releases, perhaps it's good idea to update both the DVD and Blu-Ray listings to just make a small note at the bottom that the word substitution is on all home media releases, but otherwise all releases are uncut. (So both the DVD and Blu-Ray listings pages only need one small note concerning the word substitution - the DVD listing page has the word-sub-note currently across all DVD listings which perhaps doesn't seem necessary anymore).

A.K.A something like this:

NOTE: All home media releases have a word Substitution: In the eye-transplant scene, the word "Hard-On" is dubbed with the word "Attitude". It is believed this was made during the cinematic run. Otherwise all home media releases are uncut.

(DVD) R1 America- Dreamworks - FULLSCREEN - No Cuts
(DVD) R1 America- Dreamworks - WIDESCREEN - No Cuts
(DVD) R2 Collector's Edition France- FPE/ Fox - No Cuts
(DVD) R2 DTS France- FPE/ Fox - No Cuts
(DVD) R2 Special Edition Germany- Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment - No Cuts
(DVD) R2 Holland- Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment - No Cuts
(etc)

Just an idea - up to you guys...

69:19 on the Blu-ray, Checked mine and it is also dubbed over.
The thing is, is there any confirmation that the theatrical version was NOT dubbed over with the word replacement?

An example is in "21 Jump Street", the theater teacher in the film says he remembers doing cocaine with "Willie Nelson's horse", but his lip movement is slightly off and the dubbing is slightly noticeable. The directors state in the commentary that the original line was doing cocaine with "Whitney Houston's niece", but since she died just before the film came out, they decided to redub it and release it theatrically with the replaced line.

Minority Report may be the same where it was "predubbed" for cinemas.

I will update the entry but put the comment in the notes and leave the film as "no cuts"
