OVERALL: R2
R2 Italy "Director's cut" has the longer cut of the film (as do the Austrian and Swedish discs but they are not English-friendly), Italian audio, a longer interview and it is English friendly.
GENERAL NOTES:
The film was picked up for distribution internationally by Cannon Films but they did not release it. The film exists in two versions:
- the Italian/export version (~110 minutes) in which the English dub features some subtitled passages (with burnt-in subtitles on prints)
- the director's cut (~115 minutes) featuring more frontal nudity as well as a scene featuring Frank Finlay's character suffering a dizzy spell at an art exhibition followed by a scene of Stefania Sandrelli's character purchasing her diary. -
CUTS:
- R0 America- Cult Epics - No cuts (105:16 NTSC).
- R0 Re-release America- Cult Epics - No cuts (105:15 NTSC).
- R0 United Kingdom- Arrow Films - Yes - From Craig Lapper/BBFC: "The video version (from Embassy) and the DVD version (from Arrow) both contain the cut UK cinema version. The cuts were mostly to remove what (at the time) were considered overly explicit visuals of female genitalia. In a number of cases, shots were simply darkened or blurred rather than removed. A couple of other shots were removed, one showing an erection glimpsed through an man's open shorts and one to reduce a scene of a man masturbating a woman. It is unlikely that any of these cuts would be necessary nowadays at "18" but we were only presented with the cut version for DVD release.
- R2 Director's Cut Austria- NSM - No cuts - Director's cut (110:37 PAL).
- R2 Italy- CVC Video/Minerva - Presumably cut - "Rated 14" (98:33 PAL).
- R2 Director's Cut Italy- Raro Video - No cuts - Director's cut (110:32 PAL).
- R2 Japan- Creative Axa - No cuts as such, but is optically censored it seems.
- R2 Japan- Nippon Columbia - No cuts as such, but is optically censored it seems.
- R2 Director's Cut Sweden- Studio S - No cuts - director's cut (110:38 PAL)
