Be sure that you get the "re-release".
The original pressing had the anamorphic flag defect, and it was also shorter version than the "re-release". DD Video is apparently taking replacements, if you have the "original pressing" -> www.ddvideo.co.uk . Also in the double feature with "Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter". -

OVERALL: R2
The UK release from Icon for the uncut version & exclusive extras. Note, that R1 is "R-rated", but has the exclusive audio commentary.
Two versions of this exist:
- the UK version (95 minutes NTSC = 91 minutes PAL;
- the US version which was cut down (93 minutes NSTC = 89 minutes PAL); this is missing:
-- A sequence, where the Baron damns his useless hands and grasps an artery from the monster's wrist with his teeth, followed by his rinsing his mouth out with water.
-- When Briant inserts the monster's eyeball, and Cushing says, "Pop it in", a brief side view of this procedure is replaced in the American version with a reaction shot of Madeline Smith.
-- A shot of Bernard Lee's character's handless arms in his open coffin.
-- After the asylum director has his throat mutilated by the monster, the gushing of blood that comes from his neck is a split-second longer.
-- A few seconds more of the inmates tearing apart the monster during the climax, most notably missing in action is a shot where his guts are being squashed by someone's feet.
Notes on the Anolis DVD:
Ivo Scheloske (CEO of Anolis Entertainment):
"When we started with our Hammer Edition, we were lucky to find a lot of true collectors and fans who provided us with tons of material. Among it several versions of FTMFH (incl. the dutch VHS-tape). When we finally received the Digi-Beta with the original master (the same that was used by Paramount) we compared it with the version we already had and noted the missing or replaced scenes.
We then talked again to the great guys at Cineserve (the lab Hammer Films and others are using) and explained to them the situation plus presented them the rumour that a british TV station was supposed to have aired a version that included the missing footage but would miss other footage included in the US-version.
After a few weeks they had finally tracked down an old 35mm print, which they found (I hope I recall that correctly) in a theatre nearby. They lended us the print and we checked it for the missing scenes and were in heaven, when we found out that it included all of them (except for the allready mentioned 40 frames at the end of the throat slashing).
Those elements were digitised and then cleaned up, colour corrected (so they match the Paramount master) and then incorporated in the original master."
(Info originally taken from the www.mhvf.net-forums). -
