Tower of Death a.k.a. Game of Death II (f.o.c.) – 4.5/10
After martial arts expert Billy Lo (Bruce Lee) is mysteriously killed at the funeral of his best friend, Billy’s younger brother, Bobby (Tong Lung) vows revenge and investigates his death.
It could have been a better film if the Bruce Lee footage had not been used at all. I have seen few Bruceploitation films and this may be Bruceploitation at its “best”.
Kill or Be Killed a.k.a. Karate Olympia a.k.a. Karate Killer (f.o.c.) – 7/10
A top karate fighter Steve Hunt (James Ryan), together with his girlfriend, joins a martial arts team tournament for money in a secluded desert castle owned by a disillusioned former Nazi general Von Rudloff. In the castle, Hunt and other contestants are treated as the general's special guests: being well-served and paid, and given rigorous physical training sessions for a purpose - to fight for the general's karate team against his bitter enemy's team of karate fighters. The rebellious Hunt withdraws from the tournament, against the general's command, when the general unfairly disqualifies his girlfriend for incompetence. Together with his girlfriend, Hunt flees the castle. Disgraced, the general has his girlfriend kidnapped and forces Hunt to rejoin. Being under the gun, Hunt joins forces with the opposing team of karate fighters and returns to the castle to fight fire with fire.
I remember watching this on a blurry video tape when I was about 10. Never understanding what the plot was about, I felt it was boring. After some 30 odd years, I thought I should give it a second chance! And this time, I had to admit that I enjoyed it! It’s silly but fun. Lots of fast karate fights if you like watching real martial artists exhibiting their karate skills. This is more fun than the sequel Kill and Kill Again.
Not on anamorphic widescreen DVD but there might be a proper DVD/BD release in the near future by Scorpion Releasing.
